The Glass Ceiling Won’t Shatter Itself, Let’s Finish the Job!

The ripple effect of your leadership is bigger than you.

Hi Leaders,

It’s finally March, but I’ll be honest, I’ve been thinking about this month for a while now!

Women’s History Month always brings a mix of emotions for me. On one hand, I feel empowered thinking about the incredible women who paved the way, the ones who refused to take no for an answer and created space where there wasn’t any before. But on the other hand, it’s a reminder that we’re not done yet. Progress isn’t a straight line, and every day we see the ways in which there’s still work to do.

That’s why this month isn’t just about celebrating history. It’s about asking ourselves, how are we moving the work forward? How are we showing up for the women coming next?

When I stepped into my role as the first African American and Black woman to lead a major private business aviation company, I knew I wasn’t just stepping into a job. I was stepping into a responsibility. And I won’t lie, it was nerve-wracking. I kept asking myself, how do I lead in a way that actually opens doors for others? Am I making space for people who need it?

And here’s what I’ve learned. Leadership isn’t about being the first. It’s about making sure you’re not the last. That’s what I try to keep front and center every single day. It comes down to many things, but some I’ll call out are:

Inclusive Leadership

It’s easy to talk about diversity and inclusion, but real leadership means actually making space for other voices. Not just hiring people who look different from you, but making sure they feel heard, valued, and empowered to lead. If you’re in the room and someone is being overlooked, say something. If the same voices are dominating the conversation, shift the dynamic.

Mentorship

No one makes it on their own. Someone, somewhere took a chance on you, gave you advice, or opened a door. Now it’s our turn. Who are you mentoring? Who are you advocating for when they’re not in the room? Mentorship isn’t just about sharing wisdom. It’s about taking action and helping someone else level up.

Authenticity

Support isn’t just about saying the right things. It’s about meaning them. It’s about being real, being consistent, and proving through your actions that you believe in empowering others. If you say you’re about uplifting women, prove it. Speak their names in rooms they’re not in. Make sure credit goes to the person who earned it. Follow through on your commitments. Be someone who builds trust, not just talks about it.

As we move through this month, I want to challenge you. How are you showing up for other women? How are you making sure this momentum keeps going?

Because the glass ceiling is already cracked. Let’s make sure it shatters.

Best,

Stephanie
